THE TILE FILES: Bespoke Abstract Mosaic Pillars
The idea was to introduce a pop of color to the columns, and to be honest that is on of our favorite things to work with. After going through our various mosaic product ranges, the customer picked the PIXL mosaic. They believed that this went perfectly with the overall modern theme of the space.
Vetrex Glass color palette was approved after making samples and trying different combinations. A customized version of the "Warm Glow Firefly" abstract art was approved out of 5 shortlisted from the client's side (see the title image).
The fabrication process took less than half the time traditional mosaics take thanks to our exclusive AddTek system. MEC's AddTek software can convert any image or design no matter how abstract or complex in mosaic-ready drawing using the glass mosaic tile colors from our extensive tesserae library. After the sheets were ready around 8-9% of the mosaic tiles were rearranged and color swapped manually to give it an organic handmade art effect that machines and software can rarely achieve. There is no match for the creative touch of a human, an artist.
Installing mosaic on 3D and curving surfaces such as domes and pillars is the MEC team's forte. So it was no challenge to adorn the columns with custom made sheets of glass mosaic. Our team just finished installing the mosaic art last week and the result exceeded client's expectations. The cascading abstract pattern creates an enthralling effect from a distance and the individual glass ties glisten wonderfully in different light conditions leaving a unique view from every angle.
