STREET ART: Covering Potholes with Mosaic Art
Bumpy car rides, pedestrian tripping risk, damage to car tires and an eye sore; potholes are majorly inconvenient to say the least. One artist found an inventive way to fill and cover the potholes in NYC Chicago and other places around US and the world. It solves the problem and leaves colorful surprise behind.
Using colorful tiles, Bachor makes bright designs full of color on the potholes he fixes. The designs range from images of edible items like popsicles, candy bars, hot dogs, steaks, vegetable to animals such as otter, owl and chicken. One of his masterpieces includes a mosaic art featuring Aretha Franklin.
A somewhat non traditional art themes Bachor loves is images of empty food wraps and crumpled up packaging. This modern art, mimicking trash carelessly left on the street, impresses and provokes though and awareness at the same time. Other miscellaneous mosaic designs include bouquet of flowers and colorful typography.
Unaware of the legal aspects of making such modifications to public spaces, Bachor had to face some of his art being removed by the relevant local authorities but many of his mosaics are still intact and bring a smile on the faces of visitors and passersby everyday.
Being passionate about mosaic art ourselves, we commend Bachor's ingenious solution to pesky holes in the road. It brought attention to a very real problem while promoting the timeless art of mosaic with a modern twist.
