ISLAMIC ART: Modern Maths in Medieval Times

It is a widely accepted concept that by Muslims that the depiction of figural images in art is discouraged. As a result Muslim artists’ focus was more concentrated on other types of art, a major one of those being patterns made from highly sophisticated geometric shapes and elements. It is noted that the circle is somehow the central theme for most Islamic patterns and their development.  Like for instance in the image above, triangles and further intricate interlocking shapes had been drives from six division of a circle.

Different combination and arrangement of these tiles can virtually result in an infinite range of patterns and designs.
