Classic Meets Mid-Century Modern: Office

A look into a delightfully convivial office design and how a mosaic floor can play a major role in setting of the professional yet warm ambiance

What is your first impression of the room in this photograph? Does it seem like a sitting or living room until your brain focuses on the desk at the corner?  The office is a clever and artistic combination of the familiar comfortable traditional elements and newer contemporary & modern design features. Generally you can tell a lot about the personality of the owner by looking at how they decorate their spaces. In this case, it is clear that the person wanted the space to feel welcoming, bright and stylish in “the nostalgic mid-century” way at the same time.
Upon entering, the first most people would notice is the floor, happy bright wall color, the use of wooden pattern and in every corner materials (from the actual furniture to air conditioner cover and everything in between like suspended light over the desk and wooden keyboard keys!) and the old-fashioned décor pieces like the antique telephone set behind the desk and the tasteful fireplace wood log stand (even though the actual fireplace houses a modern electrical heater). A while later one begins to marvel at the other little details from the fresh vertical blinds on the large glass panel windows and the damask upholstery on the seating to wall decoration and lights. You can’t resist admiring the floor again, it’s not a carpet, it’s not commercially printed tiles, it’s so shiny smooth and luxurious, what is it?

It is a custom marble mosaic handcrafted project by MEC Artworks, a company that specializes in all sorts of mosaic art projects. The concept and design is by Beatriz Elizando, an award-winning Italian designer who specializes in marble mosaics. The company is known to collaborate with some of the best interior designers from around the world to bring its clients the best in terms of quality and design. Although the hand-crafted floor actually contrasts the rest of the earthy and warm décor it adds a lot to the room, balancing the levels of avant-gardism and lavish traditionalism. The elegant vine and scroll design in dark tiles on a neutral cream background gives the room a whole new style direction making the atmosphere as hospitable as a home and exactly as professional as an office is supposed to feel.

Moreover, notice the intricate square medallion placed near the seating area. It uses the same color palette as the rest of the floor but gives an illusion of a totally different piece of ornamentation. Featuring elegant borders and floral elements it is a masterpiece in itself. This exquisite little motif can be used in any other space of your choice (corridor, entrance, and washroom etcetera) as a stand-alone piece of floor decoration as well.

Want to get a stunning marble or glass mosaic floor (or more) of your own at your house or another personal property? Have a custom design idea in mind that you would like to see come into reality?
